Statistical Softwares for Data Analysis & Training (in Alphabetical Order)

It is always our endeavor to deliver our clients the best we can, so we use the latest version of the following soft wares for statistical analysis.

EViews, which stands for Econometric Views, is a new version of a statistical package for manipulating time series data. It was originally the Time Series Processor (TSP) software for large mainframe computers. Although EViews was mostly formulated by economists, the program itself can also be used in other fields of study, such as sociology, statistics, finance, etc. EViews makes use of the user-friendly windows environment; most of its operations can be done with the drop-down menus. In general, EViews can perform the following jobs:

  • Data Analysis and Evaluation

  • Simulation

MicroSoft Excel



Microsoft Excel provides a set of data analysis tools — called the Analysis ToolPak — that you can use to save steps when you develop complex statistical or engineering analyses. You provide the data and parameters for each analysis; the tool uses the appropriate statistical or engineering macro functions and then displays the results in an output table. Some tools generate charts in addition to output tables.

Related worksheet functions Excel provides many other statistical, financial, and engineering worksheet functions. Some of the statistical functions are built-in and others become available when you install the Analysis ToolPak.

Accessing the data analysis tools The Analysis ToolPak includes the tools described below. To access these tools, click Data Analysis on the Tools menu. If the Data Analysis command is not available, you need to load the Analysis ToolPak add-in Program.


LaTex and


LaTeX is a high-quality typesetting system; it includes features designed for the production of technical and scientific documentation. LaTeX is the de facto standard for the communication and publication of scientific documents for example books, research paper, research studies, research reports, thesis etc, while its Beamer package uses to make presentation slides.

LaTeX is not a word processor! Instead, LaTeX encourages authors not to worry too much about the appearance of their documents but to concentrate on getting the right content. To produce this in most typesetting or word-processing systems, the author would have to decide what layout to use, so would select (say) 18pt Times Roman for the title, 12pt Times Italic for the name, and so on. This has two results: authors wasting their time with designs; and a lot of badly designed documents!

LaTeX contains features for:

  • Typesetting journal articles, technical reports, books, and slide presentations.
  • Control over large documents containing sectioning, cross-references, tables and figures.
  • Typesetting of complex mathematical formulas.
  • Advanced typesetting of mathematics with AMS--LaTeX.
  • Automatic generation of bibliographies and indexes.
  • Multi-lingual typesetting.
  • Inclusion of artwork, and process or spot colour.
  • Using PostScript or Metafont fonts.



Maple, originally developed as a joint research project centered at the University of Waterloo and ETH Zurich, is a computer program for doing a variety of symbolic, numeric, and graphical computations. Such a program is commonly called a CAS, short for Computer Algebra System. The use of CAS programs like Maple, MACSYMA, and Mathematica in research and education has become wide-spread in the past decade or so, as the power and availability of computers has grown.  

Maple performs best on problems involving symbolic, as opposed to numerical computation. However, it is generally easier to use Maple on numerical problems rather than write programs in FORTRAN or C, for numerical calculations that are not too involved. Maple also provides the user with a lot of graphical power.



Mathematica is an immense computer software package for doing mathematical computation and exploration. It contains hundreds of mathematical functions, commands for producing graphics, and a complete programming language.

MINITAB is a statistical package that provides a broad range of basic and advanced data analysis techniques. R Statistical Language

R is a language and environment for statistical computing and graphics. R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modelling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, ...) and graphical techniques, and is highly extensible. The S language is often the vehicle of choice for research in statistical methodology, and R provides an Open Source route to participation in that activity.

One of R's strengths is the ease with which well-designed publication-quality plots can be produced, including mathematical symbols and formulae where needed. Great care has been taken over the defaults for the minor design choices in graphics, but the user retains full control.


RATS (Regression Analysis of Time Series) is an econometrics/time-series analysis software package. It can be used for analyzing time series data, developing and estimating econometric models and forecasting. It is designed for both interactive and non -interactive (batch) uses.

R Excel

R Excel


R, a free and open source program, is one of the most powerful and the fastest-growing statistics program. Microsoft Excel is the most widely used spreadsheet program, but many statisticians consider its statistical tools too limited. R Excel is the merger of R and Excel.

S is a language that was developed for data analysis, statistical modeling, simulation and graphics. However, it is a general purpose language with some powerful features -- it could (and does) have uses far removed from data analysis. In particular, it should be used for many of the tasks that spreadsheets are currently used for. If a task is non-trivial to do in a spreadsheet, then almost always it would moreproductively (and safely) be done in the S language.


S-Plus is an interactive programming environment for data analysis and graphics. It is based on the AT&T Bell Laboratories S program but has substantially greater statistical and graphic capabilities than the original S, particularly in the areas of time series analysis and regression methods.

A wide variety of statistical and data manipulation functions are built into S-Plus. The current version includes the statistical modeling capabilities of the 1991 AT&T release of S.

S-Plus includes graphics commands for dynamic analysis, brush and spin, if you run the program from an X Windows session on a UNIX workstation. Graphics output, including line plots, bar and pie charts, maps, mesh and contour plots, can be saved as PostScript files or displayed on graphic devices. S-Plus also produces output in hpgl for Hewlett Packard and compatible plotters.
